Between April 15 through May 14, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed thirteen commercial poultry premise/flocks diagnosed with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Pennsylvania — 8 in Lancaster County and 5 in Berks County. On April 16, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial layer premise in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Avian Influenza: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Detected in South Carolina:
On April 9, 2020, USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced the confirmed presence of H7N3 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey flock in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. APHIS stated that there is no immediate human health concern. A report issued by APHIS to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) states that 34,160 turkeys were “suspectible,” 1,583 died, and 32,577 were culled.
