Avian Influenza: USDA Confirms HPAI in Pennsylvania Commercial Layer Flock 🌾
On April 16, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial layer premise in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The positive sample was taken on April 14, 2022, at a Kreider Farms-operated facility housing approximately 1.4 million layers, tested positive at the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory and then confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa.  PDA announced that it has quarantined, through an order of special quarantine, the affected farm […]

COVID-19: Supreme Court Grants Stay of OSHA Workplace Vaccination Rule 🌾
On January 13, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court granted applications for a stay of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) November 5, 2021 COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) (86 FR 61402). Animal Welfare: U.S. Supreme Court Petitioned to Accept Appeal Challenging Constitutionality of California’s Proposition 12 🌾
On September 27, 2021, the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) and American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) filed a petition for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to have California’s Proposition 12 declared unconstitutional as a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Commerce Clause.  Proposition 12 in pertinent part prohibits the in-state sale of pork products from animals raised in a manner not compliant with California’s in-state swine confinement standards.  National Pork Producers Council, et al. v. Antitrust: U.S. Department of Justice Indicts Six More Poultry Executives Over Alleged Price Fixing
On October 7, 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice announced a grand jury indictment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado of six additional poultry executives for conspiring to rig bids and fix prices of U.S. broiler chickens in violation of the Sherman Act: Timothy R. Mulrenin, William Vincent Kantola, Jimmie Lee Little, William Wade Lovette, Gary Brian Roberts, and Rickie Patterson Blake. United States v.
