Upcoming Presentations with the National Agricultural Law Center
CASL Attorneys to Lead National Webinars in Continued Collaboration with the National Agricultural Law Center
The Penn State Center for Agricultural and Shale Law (CASL) is pleased to announce two upcoming national webinars presented by our attorneys as part of the National Agricultural Law Center’s (NALC) Webinar Series. These programs reflect our Center’s commitment to addressing emerging legal issues in agriculture and highlight our ongoing collaboration with NALC, a partnership we deeply value.
🗓 May 21 — Navigating ADA Compliance for Agritourism Guests
Jackie Schweichler, CASL Staff Attorney, will explore how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies in farm-based tourism settings. Her presentation will offer insights into ADA requirements for physical accessibility, transportation, signage, service animals, and the distinction between service and emotional support animals. This session will provide practical legal guidance for agritourism operators striving to meet accessibility obligations.
🗓 June 18 — An Overview of State Grain Dealer Statutes in the United States
Ross Pifer, CASL Director, will present a detailed overview of how grain dealers are regulated across various states. He will cover key statutory elements, such as bonding, licensing, auditing, indemnity funds, and legal remedies for failure and fraud—information vital for producers, handlers, and legal professionals navigating this space.
These webinars are part of the NALC’s ongoing effort to provide timely and free educational programming to the national agricultural community—an effort CASL is proud to support and contribute to.
“These webinars are a perfect example of what makes our relationship with CASL so valuable,” said NALC Director Harrison Pittman. “We’re proud to keep working together to serve agricultural stakeholders across the country.”
An Ongoing Partnership
CASL has long collaborated with the National Agricultural Law Center, the nation’s leading source of agricultural and food law research. Our shared mission is to inform and support agricultural stakeholders through high-quality legal resources—from issue briefs and podcasts to legal symposia and national webinars.
This partnership extends to CASL’s role in organizing the Pennsylvania Agricultural Law Symposium, which brings together attorneys, policymakers, and scholars to discuss critical legal issues affecting agriculture. At last year’s Symposium, NALC Senior Staff Attorney Rusty Rumley presented on carbon credits and agricultural contracts. We look forward to hosting this year’s event on Thursday, September 18 at Penn State Dickinson Law in University Park.
Recent CASL Contributions to the NALC Webinar Series
In addition to the upcoming sessions, CASL attorneys have recently contributed the following presentations through the NALC platform:

- An Overview of U.S. Charitable Food Surplus Programs — Audry Thompson (June 2023)
