On January 30–February 1, 2024, The Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention will be held at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 1:30–2:30pm, Staff Attorney Audry Thompson will present “The Fair Labor Standards Act: What You Need to Know” as part of the conference.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) provides the foundation for labor law in the United States. However, the FLSA provides several exemptions for agriculture, including exemptions from minimum wage, overtime, and child labor requirements, although many states have laws overriding these exemptions. This presentation will provide an overview of the FLSA and discuss the law’s provisions relating to agriculture, including what agricultural employers must do to remain in compliance with the law. Additionally, it will address state and federal efforts to amend or override FLSA agricultural provisions.

Registration is available on the Mid-Atlantic Fruit & Vegetable Convention website at mafvc.org
