On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from noon–1:00 p.m. (ET), Center Director Ross Pifer will present “An Overview of State Grain Dealer Statutes in the United States” as part of the National Agricultural Law Center’s webinar series.

From the National Agricultural Law Center:

Ensuring that grain marketing chains operate smoothly is critical to local and regional agricultural economies.  The failure of one business can create a cascading series of impacts upon a large number of agricultural producers.  To minimize these potential adverse impacts, many states have enacted grain dealer statutes.  These various statutes have a common framework, but they also vary widely from state to state in many respects.

This webinar will provide an overview of grain dealer statutes and then review the specific provisions included within many of these statutes such as bonding, indemnity funds, licensing, auditing, failure, liens, and penalties.  This webinar also will provide an overview of grain warehouse statutes, which often operate in conjunction with grain dealer statutes at the state level.
